About
I have always been interested in technology and in empowering people. Technology is a system and there are methods that can be used to navigate your way to a safe harbor. These are the things I’ve learned so far:
- find a developer who codes for accessibility – when you do there is a greater likelihood of naturally scoring well on search engine optimization;
- use a professional graphic artist and find one who can collaborate with your web developer. The look of your site reflects directly on how users perceive your business – be sure you have a professional look;
- brand yourself by making sure that your logo and “look” are consistent across media types (your business card, postcards, mailers, etc. should all be recognizable as yours);
- use your website as a sales force – let your potential clients know about your business and what sets you apart. “Train” your website the same way you would your best sales person;
- implement web analytics – it will help you learn more about who is visiting your site and where they are coming from;
I’ve been in web development for nearly 8 years. I’m very much self-taught and my love is front-end development, or skinning, and web accessibility. I also build informational sites, database driven sites and content management systems. I also like to work with open source products like Wordpress, Joomla and DotNetNuke to name a few. I’ve had experience with e-commerce sites using DotNetNuke, OSCommerce
On a personal level I like roller blading, walking on the beach, reading, taking long road trips, listening to books on tape, fixing up houses, historical novels and playing drums. I am also proud to say that I am one of those people who is completely in love my dog, the swamp princess, Matilda.
I’ve had a lot of interesting jobs – working with autistic children, mentally-challenged adults, as a labor law investigator, in commercial banking working with letters of credit.
